Problems removing instrument cluster? This may be why...
1983 RX-7. Model? You tell me.
Here's something that didn't jump out at me from reading the Haynes manual or any posts online. The instrument cluster (mine at least) as also held in place by 2 screws from the bottom. You can't see them until you remove this air duct under the steering column which is held on by 1 screw.
Remove the air duct.
Here's the location of the 2 screws (already removed) when looking from where the instrument cluster goes.
Here's a shot from underneath (I'm only showing one location but there's also another one one the other side).
Now the instrument cluster slides out.
PS. I only removed the steering wheel, not the steering wheel column cover or any ony other *****, and the cluster came out easily. (Of course, I disconnected the speedometer first, and then the 3 electrical connectors when I had room to work.)
