Lightbulb need to change pilot bearing, read this

Hi all. I was looking at an rx-7 vendors website and I saw that they sell a special tool to remove the pilot bearing and that they want like $300 bucks for it. That's just plain retarded. This weekend my dad and I pulled the pilot bearing on my se. It took about 45 min. to figure out how to make a tool for the job, about 5 min to make the tool, and another 5 min to pull the bearing. I'm not sure if knowing how to do this would be usefull info for anyone or not, but please don't waist your money. If anyone out there needs to know how to do this please email me at jhackney@slo.newport.com and I will send you directions. We made the tool out of things and using things that 99.5% of people have in the garage. :p

Thanks for the info.
I really didn't want to spend $$$ on a tool I would only use once or twice, so your info is a big help. I'll be trying your method out this weekend

rex alot,

If you would feel like describing how to make the tool in a new thread (title it something like "How to make pilot bearing tool" or something like that), we can vote it into the archives where it will be accessable for all who come to the forum. A great thread to have in there if you are up for it...

Wow, that's a really old post. Judging by his number of posts I'd guess that he hasn't been around for years now. To bad he never just described his tool right in the thread, kinda ridiculous to make everybody email for the info. Maybe someone who's still on the forum got the info and will relay it....

I just pulled out my pilot bearing with a free loaner tool from the local autozone, piece of cake. They also sell one for 20 bucks, or if you prefer, harbor freight has one for 17.99 I can't believe anyone would spend $300.
