I don't hate when people ask questions on this forum...I hate when people answer "search" instead of just helping...just my $0.02.

Search.

Seriously. Not encouraging search before posting questions only reveals ignorance of the use of a forum as a knowledge base, which ironically, once a question has been asked enough times, it will obscure the results of a search, making it hard for those who DO search. So those who answer every question every time it gets posted are not being polite and helpful. Instead, are doing a disservice to everybody.

Post a question on a subject that has been covered before but not completely is OK, AS LONG AS A SEARCH HAS BEEN DONE AS A FIRST STEP.

So when the question "what spark plugs should I use in my 7? I didn't do a search, sorry, too lazy!" is posted for the 59th time, don't be surprised if forum members reply with "SEARCH!".

Question Search!

Its so simple to say 'search', but is it useful advice? Try it, just type in 'install a TII engine' and see what a mess of useless threads you get back.

797 did the right thing, he listed the important and relevant threads. That is providing good information to the actual question asked, which was not requesting a blow by blow description of what you need and how to do it.

Second test- sparkplugs? Search for 'sparkplugs 12at ' like I did as a serious search and I got one thread about a car for sale and no information on sparkplugs. A direct question to 680rwhp would have been far better, but then I already knew the right guru on the 12a turbo to ask the question.

An another issue, how an earth does the system come up with a list of similar threads? In most cases they have no obvious connection.

True, but searching for a specific answer is often times VERY difficult and confusing. You have to try to put together pieces of the answer from several disjointed responses, and HOPE they are accurate and HOPE you've put them together properly. I'm not trying to discourage searching...it's important to try to search first. But many times 1) it's easier to just give the answer (assuming you know the answer) and 2) it can result in more accurate results for the questioner to be able to actually interact with the people giving the answers rather than trying to interperet previous posts.

I'm not trying to start a word war...just expressing that I think the automatic "Search" response is abused as much as the lack of searching before asking.

Again, just my $0.02.

OK 64, as long as people search before posting, we agree.

Props to 797 who understands the value of searching.

Yeah it helps if you mention that you searched and didn't find out answer to certain specific questions, and then post those questions.

I want my 2.5 mins back

I find that since the thread is already created, it's good to help them AND scald them for not searching. If my response was just "use the search" then the next person searching would get that useless answer as one of their threads coming up.

Giving threads is good, giving advice is good, but hell, even giving proper search terms is good! Often new people don't know what to search for to get the answers to their questions. Sometimes one of us has seen a thead that's helpful, and know how to search it up using terms a new person might not think of.

Qka, in answer to your question, unfortunately there is no step-by-step write-up on how to drop in a TII engine. We don't really have the resources and user base of (for example) a Honda Civic forum, where there have been step-by-step articles written in dozens of magazines and whatnot.

What we *do* have is an amazing wealth of knowledge spread throughout many threads. Hang around here long enough and you'll see what I mean. You learn a hell of a lot here. The information you seek is here, it just has to be found. I know there's some information on TII into GSL-SE swap in the Archive, which is also very useful even for a non -SE car.

My advice would be to spend a bit of time reading and come up with some specific big questions you have, and that will help us point you in the right direction easier. If you ask "how do I do the swap" I don't really know how to answer you, but if you ask "where can I get info on how to do the wiring" I could search up a thread for you. Or "can I go carb and use a Holley?", or "I have a GS, how do I modify the engine mount for the new engine, or can I buy another mount".

You can do it, don't let the lack of a step-by-step tutorial throw you. Part of the fun of working on these cars is the challenge, and the reward of doing it yourself. Maybe someday you'll be the person writing that tutorial for us, but in the meantime, try to find members who've done the swap and PM them!

I just noticed you're in Cali... Lucky for you there are a few extremely good shops in Cali that can help you if you have to go to a shop. Check www.racingbeat.com and www.mazdatrix.com I'm pretty sure both are in Cali.

And I hope you have someone you can pay for the emissions test because I wouldn't want to imagine the nightmare of getting the TII engine setup properly to pass the e-test!

hey i wasted 3 mins!

yea but really it took me and my buddy on a separate comp like 10 minutes to find those specific places. If your laying under the car and need something like right now i can understand, but i mean doing research on a topic isnt going to take you more than a few hours to find exactly what you need + more if your looking for something really complicated. oh well, add this thread to the turbo II swap search results...

also what is it exactly you need to know? Most of the swap is straight forward from what ive read, but there are some tricky parts. Give us some questions of what you need to know that you couldnt find

No problem.I even pass with a streetport and hybrid turbo. And NO CHEATING!!!If you can do the factory ECU swap, youll pass smog easily. You just have to know what your doing and be complete, and youll get one of these from the state smog reff,to shut the smog shops up for good....
