Probably a dumb question.....

Could I feasibly boost a stock 12A to say, 5PSI without having to prep my carb or run higher octane? The reason I ask is that I'm really very happy with the power my car makes and I really just want to take it up a tiny little notch in performance. The engine is a strong stock-port that could see a street-port over the winter. Also I would have to lock my dizzy to prevent detonation correct? Could I weld the advance mechanism? (I can weld pretty decently). Well there goes the stupidity for the night. I was thinking a stock TII turbo with a FMIC would probably make a nice reliable set-up.

high compression + any boost + low octane + the possibility of less-than-ideal fueling + less-than-ideal timing control are probably NOT the best idea ... but i won't say it's impossible. i just wouldn't recommend it ...

run a search on this, i've seen some pretty good threads out there that can help you with some very cost-effective and innovative ideas on building a 12A Turbo on a budget.

I've run a search and I'm still not sure. Looks like I'll need a rising rate FPR and a better fuel pump, the stock TII turbo and manifold look like the best option and there is a place near me that sells low milage JDM units. I'll probably run it with the stock waste-gate arrangement and with a pop-off valve to protect against boost creep. I'll probably run it without intercooler with high-octane for a few weeks and then plumb in an intercooler once I've got a bit more cash. That or I'll assemble all the goodies and then turbo it once the autocross season is over.
