previous owner search?

I don't know ifbits possible, but is there any way to track down the previous owners of a vehicle? The douchebag I bought one of my cars from didn't know **** about them, but the car had a few upgrades done to it when I bought it and I had some questions about the engine that's in it...its a stock port but it pulled really effing hard for a 12a..

I know that at one point in its life it was in the santa cruz area, and rustys mazda repair did some work to it, but other than that I have no clues...

Now I understand that not everyone wants to be contacted about a vehicle they have previously owned, but just wondering if there was a way to find out this information..

Carfax won't go back far enough and I think the VIN won't work but I'm not sure on that.

I think your best bet would be to get something like a CarFax to determine which states/cities the vehicle has been registered. You would then need to contact each state and see if they would be willing to give you the past owner information. Many states are reluctant to give up such information. A title company might have more pull but it will cost.

This is a good link.

What kind of info are you trying to find out?

Been in the same boat before, and personally I think you could determine most things yourself a lot easier than tracking down a mystery owner.

Yeah it may be easier to just let it go and finish tearing it apart...but mostly I was curious as to what purpose he was building for. Most of it was stock but there were some simple things done to it like upgraded front sway, missing rear sway (its an s model so it may not have come with one) and I wanted to know what he did to the engine, if anything..the engine pulled really hard when I was using it as a DD, and would accelerate stupid quick. Seems like a stock flywheel and clutch so I'm thinking maybe lightweight internals...won't know until I get the engine apart. Plus most of the interior sound proofing was already gone..sound would echo through the cabin every time you closed the doors lol. Exhaust was stock, and all emissions were there. Also shifted smooth as glass...
