Premixing MMO
Some guy in the third gen section tried to tell me that MMO does not work for premixing. I call bullshit on that. Ive been running my motor from day one, premixing mmo, with no OMP. and now 12,000 miles later the motor is just as strong as when I finished the break in period.
So lets suppose for a sec that hes right, how long would it take you motor to go belly up, if you had no premix, and no OMP? Ive never heard a deffinate answer. Ive heard ten minutes, 10 miles, 100 miles, u name it. Whats the real deal?

MMO is a god send to us rotary owners. Whoever told you that premixing mmo doesnt work, is a idiot, and i would expect that from a 3rd gen owner (no offence )
I've got a friend with 400k on his 1st gen and he uses 1 whole bottle on every oil change and a quater bottle with every full tank of gas. Hes still running the stock nikki carb too with great compression on the motor.
MMO is the cure and prevention for cancer on your rotary engine.

Dang, I'm gonna have to go look up a thead that was posted on here a while ago about MMO vs. Two Stroke... Wait! I put it in the archive.. hold on..
https://www.rx7club.com/1st-gen-archive-71/cooling-oil-mmo-vs-two-stroke-premixing-thread-360375/
Basically, as it turns out, MMO is MUCH thinner than Two stroke. Thinner definitely than 10w30 which is what gets mixed in by the stock OMP. People have had some success with using it as a premix, and part of that can probably be attributed to the fact that when people premix, they tend to use a much richer concentration of oil-to-gas than the OMP provides, often tens or hundreds of times more than the OMP in fact. I, personally wouldn't advocate use of MMO as the *sole* premix when running without an OMP. Using MMO as an additive, okay. It's detergents are bound to do *something* in the engine, though I cannot say what.
I have no idea how long it would take an engine to burn out if lacking lubrication, or if it were poorly lubricated, but I'm sure Mazda engineers knew, and that's why we got an OMP. IMHO, we should either rebuild our stock OMPs (as I did) or switch to a two-stroke premix because it was *designed* for that type of use. MMO was not designed with that in mind, it's too thin to be a safe premix solution, and really, would you trust your car to anything with "mystery" in it's name?

I just thought of another point:
We're not the only generation getting rid of our OMPs and premixing. Our engines are pretty rock-solid as they are. We've got the highest milage cars of the three generations, and we don't have as much stress on our stock engines. Since none of our stock engines came boosted or anything, we don't have as many problems with lubricatin, or lack thereof, on our apex seals and them breaking.
The reason the 3rd gen guy said that is probably because if you use something as thin as MMO for premix in a 3rd Gen's twin turbo engine, you'd probably blow it in no time!
Someone who frequents the 2nd and 3rd gen forums, get in there and find out what they're using for premix and do some searching to find out if MMO has caused any problems for them!

i dont know about MMO but i use valvoline tc-w3 on my 2nd gen.
as for how long it takes, i dont know honestly, but i do know that when i first bought this 88 GXL i drive, i drove it for a year and 6 months with no OMP lines and it never skipped a beat, i never noticed for that year and a half until i took apart the intake and found broken, and crumbled lines that were never hooked up. go figure, i still drive it and hard runs great.

Yeah, any good 2 stroke mixing oil will work fine on a Rex with no OMP. Viperniucus is right though, most guys way overmix the oil when they premix, compared to the OMP. The absolute richest the OMP goes is like 150:1. Most guys mix closer to 100:1 or even more. So you see that the engine is getting way too much oil most of the time, and more oil than usual at WOT or high load situations. Definately not good in a turbo situation where octane is important, but not such a big deal for us non turbo guys.
I wonder if the excess oil will form carbon deposits?
