premixing
premixing
So my new to me FB is tucked away for the winter.
It is a premix setup, I was told to mix 1 oz. to every gallon. Now I have been reading the archives and see different idea's on the mix.
I would like to hear from people who do.....Can I get away safely with just mixing 1/2 oz.?????
I'm thinking it may depend on the oil you use???????
Thanks
Paul

1 oz/gal is the accepted standard for premixing, and yes, I do premix. You can get away with 1/2 oz for storage, then add the other 1/2 oz/gal before start up. Be sure to add a can of Heet and and the appropriate amount of Sta-Bil so the fuel doesn't go stale during storage. If your MOP is still operational, limit the mix to no more than 1/4oz/gal..

If I were to premix i'd do what sgt fox did. https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/richard-sohn-metering-pump-adapter-install-809207/
I've always used 25 ml. per gallon of gasoline, since I don't have a MOP. That's a hair less than 1 oz. 1/2 oz. will be too little and result in the seals wearing out prematurely. If you do a lot of high-rpm driving, you may want to consider more than 1 oz.
When you first start premixing, please pay close attention to your oil level, if your oil level starts rising your premix is not burning and getting scraped into the engine oil.
I have experienced this oil level rising phenom while using too heavy mix of oils that did not burn so well. While experimenting with how much per gallon of what kind of oil. I was looking for the desired amount of flexibility to the response and characteristics of how the throttle and car responded to each other with different octanes and premixes.

I'm ordering a case of the Idemitsu Rotary Premix, I'll give this a shot.

I would like you to agree with me, but offer more than my explaination, as I do not boost, and you can also do it, please PM and I can name 1 premix that you can try yourself and see the result.
I will also offer up that I might have pompus side seals allowing inconsistant blowby.
btw trochoid is right.
