Bullshit. The hose has been like that for over 5 years now with no issues.

Good Idea! How does it feel now, compared to before.
The only problem for me is that I really like my P/S.
I hope I don't regret it later.

Apparently some people have removed theirs and still had no problem. My car had a bad pump, no fluid, so I don't know if that's completely different than no P/S at all, but it wasn't a whole big deal to turn the thing.

I tried adding fluid to mine when I had it apart for inspection. Couldn't turn it worth a damn until I spun it back and forth many times to pump the fluid back out.

Seems to work just fine with just the oil film that remains.

The hose is mainly to prevent spooge leakage all over the engine bay. I couldn't imagine using a kinked hose, but then I need to go from full lock to full lock fairly quickly Is why I'm converting back to power assist plus a quickener.

Might do away with the box setup altogether. It works very well when using stock size tires, but anymore I drive on 225/50-15 steamrollers, and it's a nightmare if there's any side winds or grooves in the road. Steamroller tires have horrible straight-line handling, but it's that instability that allows you to change direction quickly. You pays your money and makes your choice. Can't go down the road straight to save its life, but you can be going about 40, 45mph and crank the wheel 180 degrees to the left and the car will take a new heading before you realized that you did something stupid, with no sturm or drang. (This just means that the car has more handling capability than my hands can keep up with, so faster steering is required )
