Power to manual steering swap

Has anyone done this and I guess my main question is will a manual box for the same year bolt up to my factory steering shaft and pitman arm? Thanks for the help

Yes but why? If ur ps box is good, just disconnect.the belt or completely eliminate the ps pump lines and such

Pump and H block that lines go threw under brake master are both leaking at this point it would be easier to just swap the box and remove all p/s parts. Also was reading and thought I saw that the steering ratio for a power box was 16:1 and a manual box is 22:1 so the power box may be harder to turn with out the pump than a manual box any thoughts?

actually, its not that hard but the key is to turn the steering wheel once car is rolling. If I were you, I will mod it like this before you swap to non-PS box.

Yep that's what I did, just an old school hot rod trick. I put a real light weight gear oil in mine. I have another car with a manual box but just haven't swapped it. Steering isn't all that bad.

IMHO it might be cheaper and easier to just repair the PS unit. Unless you want the weight reduction of course! Then try the above mentioned fix and try it before you look at replacing that whole unit with a manual.

The PS leaked in my brother's GSL-SE so it's just as you described; only turning when the car is moving. He could fill it and have easy steering for like a day. I never got into it so I never figured out where it was leaking from. Glad my GSL-SE has manual steering.
