The plug for the antenna should be behind the right rear speaker panel trim.

It should be there. I put in an automatic antenna when I had my S model and the plug was there. It may be behind the right rear speaker. But all the Fb's are wired for all accessories.

Huum...
Almost all new aftermarket radios have a yellow (may be diff) wire that is used to signal the antenna. Provide constant power to the antenna and this signal to the input on the antenna and you are good to go.

Well I have to be careful with my answer - I used an after market unit from parts america that had a relay built in to the antenna The interface is a power on signal that drives antenna up, take power away and it drops down. It is very simple on the aftermarket.

If I remember correctly (none of mine were factory), the factory one used a separate relay (it has been 20 years) and I think you said you are using a factory one. Generally, the relay is used to swap power and ground to the motor to control its direction.

Section G of the 81 electrical manual has the relay and schematic...

Iirc, the stock antenna powers up, the the relay switches so it can power down. I have found that the S models were missing some af the wiring for options, i.e., power window harness in the doors, but I belive all of them had power antennna.

I had a friend that had some odd wiring in his 1st gen. If you turned the dome light to the off position, it shut off the radio and powered down the antenna. Go figure, lol.

Does it appear that you have have the wiring to plug into a relay, if so, somone should have a relay from a parts car.
