Possible issue with airhorn gasket

Hey guys, I recently adjusted my float bowl levels and had to replace my airhorn gasket. I bought a carb rebuild kit but noticed that the new airhorn gasket is different than the old one.

Here is a picture of what the old gasket looked like

And here's what the new gasket looks like, with the concerning differences highlighted:

Is the new gasket going to work just as well as the old gasket? When I ran the car with the new gasket, I was having issues with a stumbling idle but I've been trying to fix that issue for awhile. I'm hoping to rule out this gasket as being part of the issue. Thank you!

Depending on what rebuild kit you got u should have the right gasket included. I thought all the kits include multiple gasket's for multiple years. I'm pretty sure this will cause a problem with your idle having the holes blocked

It makes sense that the kit would have multiple gaskets for different years but it looks like mine only has that one for the air horn. Here is the carb kit I bought, and it does come with two throttle body gaskets. Here is the other carb kit from RockAuto but it says it's for a Rochester carb, is that important? It seems most of the gaskets are the same, except for the ones for the intake manifold.

Also for my own curiosity, what're those holes for?

The kit you bought is for the 1979-1980 carb - they didn't have those extra holes in the airhorn which are for the attitude compensation valve. The second kit you linked would be correct; them saying it's for a Rochester carb is simply an error on their side (assuming the photos are accurate that is).

Anywho, the kit most folks buy is the Hygrade 1401 which is also available from Rock Auto. You may also find it listed as a Standard Motor Products kit. It includes gaskets for either carb revisions and is generally regarded as one of the best quality kits out there. My personal pick is the GP Sorensen Kit but they can sometimes be hard to find for a reasonable cost. Running the wrong airhorn gasket with cause issues because those holes are linked directly to the primary booster circuits, and a leak there will cause all sorts of fun. I'd suggest swapping the kit out for one of the two I mentioned if at all possible.

Thank you for all of that great info! I'll look into the Hygrade and GP Sorensen kit

Whatever u do don't replace the float needle valves with the ones from the kit. They will flood the bowl. No matter what you try to do they will not work.
