Porting intake! Center ports smaller than engine center ports????
I pulled the intake to port it, and the center ports (I think the primary's not sure) are bigger on the engine, than the intake. Why?? And also , how big do I port the intake???I want more power on the stock port because I dont know if I am going to rebuild it just yet! Also any body have a after-market header for sale, that fits a 79/80 rx??? THanks,
LATERZ,
Andrew

Hey man I am doing the same thing to an 85' intake for my 79'. I noticed the same thing, I think I am going to enlarge it a little but not all the way, cause I dont know if it will affect anything. The reason they are smaller on the intake I think is because of emmission requirements in the US. What are you using to port? I am using my trusty Dremel with a carbid bit.
Don't touch the center ports on the intake manifold unless you want to make a less power... for one thing, having a port mismatch there prevents reversion, which boosts torque, and for another thing, the intake port is trying to turn there - if you make the port taller while it's trying to turn, you wind up with a TON of turbulence and lost flow.

Andrew, you are absolutely killin' me!!
Get some more light on the shots, though...at first, I thought your third pic looked like you had cracked the intake until I realized I was lookin' at an out-of-focus carb bolt!
