Talking Porsche VS Mazda!

Ok this might sound stupid but could a turbo charged first generation take on a 944 turbo??? from the same year? For example my car a 1985 Rx7 GSL if i turbo charged it and did some other mods like K and N air filter etc. Could there be some rivarly the reason i ask is cause there isa guy at my church who owns a red Porsche 944 Turbo and I havent brought my Rx7 yet hehe would I get my wheels blown off or would i stand a chance lol.

id say itd all depend on ur mods those turbos are no joke they do 0-60 in like 5 sec not sure on hte quarter but they are still quick i think if u have like a turbo ii motor and a few mods u should be able to take him though. also keep in mind u are lighter than he is too good luck!

You'd get your doors blown off.

Now with a setup like Directfreak's... THEN you could do some damage.

BTW, K&N doesn't count as a "mod". 1-2hp max isn't a mod. It's a drop-in.

13b Turbo (out of a Turbo II or custom) with a proper fuel system, racing clutch and freeflow exhaust might do it. I don't know the stock specs of a porshe 944 Turbo, but the fact that it has Turbo and you don't, and that you're in an affordable japanese car and he's driving an expensive porshe gives you a marked disadvantage.

Grab the stock specs of both cars, put them side by side... then figure out if he's got any mods that make him faster.

Then look on this forum at guys like IoTus and DirectFreak who have turbo'd 7s and find out what it'd take to do it.

Anything's possible with enough money, but N/A 7 on a budget is not gonna beat a porshe.

Porsche 944's aren't that expensive, nor very powerfull. A 944 was a poor mans Porsche in it's native country, so unless it's one of the powerfull specials (S4 or something) it won't be as good as it's name makes it sound. A 944 is very far off from a real Porsche (911 family) Nevertheless, a Mazda RX-7 is a even poorer mans Porsche, so you can't beat him unless you spend some money.

specs on 944's:
http://www.petting-zoo.net/~gkm/944.html

1982 NA had 163hp from 2.5l
1985 Turbo 220hp
According to that list the most powerfull one would have 250hp, but most had less. So if he had a 220hp one, you'd at least need a 13BT to win.
Of course, who says his toy is stock

I say with enough mods to a turbo 7 it wouldnt be to hard to keep up with and beat a stock turbo 944. Stock the 944 turbos are only around 14.5-15 in the 1/4mile... And dont say a 944 isnt like other porsches cause it was relatively cheaper. The N/A 944 still costed twice as much as a GSL-SE. I own an N/A 944 and its a quick car and the handling is TOP NOTCH! I wish I had a turbo 944 but as it stands I have a Turbo Supra . Heh if I could afford it I would own a 944 turbo the handling is crazy and the feel of driveing one is quite nice, but a nice turbo 944 will run you 7k easy, and maybe more for a later year one. The later ones were a whopping 3L 4 cylinder.

a 12AT like Cody's would take him no question about it.

Yes you could leave him in the dust. You are setting the sights too low a 944 is not a true Porsche in any event. A turbo 2-rotor can typically produce 200 to 400 or more hp. It depends upon amount of boost, and which turbo and other systems you choose.

Just keep reading pal. You obviously have a LOT to learn. I don't however, mean that as an insult. We all started there at some point. Have you ever changed your oil by yourself before? If not, that's a good place to start

Nope I havent changed oil by myself before. I have been trying to learn everything about this car that i can im only 15 but i loved this car! I want to change its oil and air filters and the oil itself. Anything to make my car better. I love it and am trying to learn anything i can about the awesome Rx7. I can drive a stick okay but not very well. I should have waited awhile before getting my first car but im such a freak about them i couldnt pass this deal up. I had tried to buy a 1983 Datsun280zx Turbo(btw had 235,000 miles on it) but the thing had so much wrong with it plus the guy wanted 2000 bucks for it! The 2nd car I looked at was a 1985 Nissan 300zx for 300 cheap I know it had 214,000 miles on it and its interior was insanely terrible. I had no idea about the engine cause we could not start the thing up! The stupid battery was dead plus the Key didnt open the trunk up and the doors wouldnt lock!! I had spotted the rx7 when riding by one day with my friend i looked over saw it at a Kroger parking lot me and my dad checked it out called the owner and test drove 2 days later and bought it! for 1050 dollars it has 148k on it. I spent an hour and 10 minutes yesterday cleaning the interior. Before i bought my car the owner overhauled the transmission she spent 1400 on the car and let me buy it for 1050 because her nephew didnt want it.( WHAT A FOOL!) anyways i got the car and I do not regret it. Does anyhave any tips for me about this car?? excuse my grammer if it is bad

Being a Tech for a Porsche, Jag dealer I can assure you that a 951 (944 turbo) is indeed a true porsche.

However, Any turbo first gen should be able to take a stock 951. They are quick but not real fast when stock. They handle very well though and it takes little to make them fast.
