Pop up Headlight problem

A new problem has cropped up with Elanore (my 1985 GSL-SE).

A few nights ago her headlights went up as usual, but now they won't go back down. The lights themselves work fine, but I can't get them to retract. The fuse is okay.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
-Spencer

is the manual switch still plugged in or is it shorted. if anything is wrong with the switch or its unplugged the lights won't go back down.

I have the same problem and it IS the switch. All I do is pop the switch off, short out the metal tabs and the lights go back down. Stupid switch, bad construction on Mazda's part. I'll most likely replace with a rocker switch from Digi-Key or Mouser some time soon along with the rest of them.

What color is your interior? I have an extra headlight switch at home.

Fusible link at driver's side strut tower - the one that says 'Headlights'. Replace fusible link with proper part and you're back in business. Don't hack up your switches or wiring until you do this,... trust me.
