polyurethane engine mounts?
Anyone sell poly mounts for 1st gens, specifically 13b cars?
I've seen a few aluminum mounts, but vibration would be too much for me.
Also, anyone know of a poly front bushing kit? Everything made of rubber in my car has been converted to this strange black "dust" haha

A lot of people just drill a hole in a hockey puck. I've heard that it works great, but haven't tried it myself yet (although I do have the pucks ready to go).

I got aluminum mounts from REspeed. Good product, easy install, very cheap $25.
There was vibration at first, but I corrected it by tuning it out at idle, where it's worst. I have engine management.

I've heard the ES poly stuff squeaks a lot, and is a little harsh. I might just go with new rubber stuff, I just want everything perfectly tight up front again.

Yeah, the respeed ones were what i was looking at... unfortunately its hard to tune the vibration out of a chevy, especially at idle, lol

Is this issue as simple as finding something stiff (like a piece of polyurethane or hockey puck, lol), cutting it into a round shape and shaving it to the proper height? I need a tiny bit more height than my worn out oe mounts, original spec height would likely be perfect. Also heard someone say that they used something called "window weld" to layer up a mount, what the hell is that stuff? Hmmmm...

i broke one of my mounts during my engine swap and was strapped for cash and pressed for time so i went to Napa and got some window urethane. I filled up the mount and let it set overnight. Installed the motor mount next day. Working great for almost a year now, right at 10k.

Are the mounts different for 13b and 12a cars? I'm stuck 100 miles from my car, so i cant just go look... The banzai mounts say they work for all rx7's 79-85, but the mts they show look pretty different from the ones i'm seeing on advance auto parts webpage... although i have a foggy memory of my oe mnts being the "puck" 12a style..

At this point I have to admit I have no idea whats going on.. I'll check my haynes and take a look at the car when im home for the weekend.
Why would there be two rubber mounts for each side, a chassis and an engine? In that case, one could use the Al. mounts with little increase in vibration, since there is still a rubber component... Haha, wheres the engine mounts for dummies book, i need it =P

Okay, lets see if I can make this make sense:
The part you posted bolts onto the front chasis frame rails.
The poly, or aluminium, or hockey puck, or stock rubber mount goes on that bolt stocking out of the top of the part you posted.
Then the long metal bar that bolts to the font cover goes on top of that.
I'll sketch up a picture later...

Two of these go on the Chasis frame rails (one on each side of the car):
These go on top of those:
This (the part on the left) goes on top of those, and bolts to the front cover of the engine, minus the stock rubber mounts that are still attached to it:

Thanks SMNC, I got to putz around with them this weekend. My mounts are mushy, so its time for something new. The pass. mount is 1.26" thick, while the drivers is 1.5" thick, and they look like the round "puck" style, so im not sure what the hell those other mounts were all about. Anyway, I'm debating whether I should make my own poly mounts, or just give in and buy the banzai mounts.. hmmm...

I'm opting to make my own mounts, duplicating the heights of my stock mounts plus 1/16" or so for some added clearance, since my oil pan nearly smacks the crossmember. I hope to use the steel endcaps from the stock mounts, but if that doesn't work, I'll just cut some endplates from some 3/16 or 1/4" plate. I've got some other projects going on right now, but I'll update in a while with how they are turning out, then how they work.

I used 3" dia, 90A durometer stock.. black. I'll use 3/8" hardware to mount, so the holes are 3/8 as well. I've got enough polyurethane left over that I someone could make another set out of them, let me know if anyone wants it. I cut the 3" rod with a bandsaw, then trued up one end in a lathe, then turned it around (pun) and began taking off material. I also used the lathe to drill the 3/8 holes, so they are dead center (not that it really matters). Any questions, just ask.

Update: Mounts are installed! I'm amazed.... not really any more vibration from the motor can be felt, but that sucker doesn't move around anymore at all. I ended up using the 1 5/16 thick poly with 1/8" endplates on each side, which thankfully picked the oilpan off the crossmember a bit more. I'm extremely happy with them, would definitely recommend =)

I'll try and get the car up on a lift tomorrow for some pics... Keep in mind my mounts are holding up the 305, so my specs may not suit a car with a rotary motor (i went a little higher to get the oil pan off the crossmember)
