Plug hanging under car next to starter....???

So I been sinking alot of my free time into this GSL-SE for probally a year now... Slowly but surely I been fighting off each gremlin as the car sat for AWHILE.

So here's my question:

I have two wires dangeling underneath the car right next to the starter. Both have a green wire, yellow stripe, red dash...

One of the wires had a three way split that broke which seemed to be tied into the reverse light sensor off the transmission, see pic 1. The other end of the split was a small pull plug, see picture 2.

And coming out of the harness, (not sure if they are intertwined w/out removing tape) is a bigger locking plug, see picture 3.

Anyone know what these two plugs do and where they go..??

Thanks.

I have the same plug hanging on my car, I have no idea what it's for, lol. I don't remember it being there before I rebuilt the engine though.

I thought the reverse light was already hooked up, pic 1....?

The plug/s in pic 2 and 3 are the ones not hooked up.

The exhaust overheat sensor/wiring/connector is inside the car believe it or not, so it's not that.

The wire hanging on my car is not the reverse sensor either. If everything is working as it should be, just tether it up to something in the car to keep it from dangling, and go on with life.

I haven't verified this on my car, but according to the wiring diagram...
Backup lights are two red wires from tranny. Connects to two female bullet terminals, 1 with Red/white and 1 with Green/yellow wire.

Over top switch is two blue wires from right side of tranny. Connects to a Blue/white wire with a female spade terminal and a Black wire with a male spade terminal.

Neutral switch is two green wires from tranny. Connect to a Blue/black wire with a female spade terminal and a Black wire with a female spade terminal.

Doesn't matter which one of the matching wires from the tranny is connected to which.

Thunkrd... I'll check that out tommorow.

Well, The wires were dangeling enough to scrape the floor when driving and while neating them up I got hit with a thuderstorm... so I started this thread in hopes someone would post a link to the factory manuals and say use these, which never works out for me, and I could then get into the topic of 101 factory manual reading.

They aren't effecting anything at the moment and they are no longer dangeling away, so this topic will prob go on the back of the to-do list.

74RX7, You posted while I was proof reading what I typed, and after reading your response, I think I'm more confused now then I was before...?

What does the neutral switch and the over the top switch do..?
My colors don't match those listed on your diagram... Maybe i have a 12A transmission..???

I forget what each one does specifically. I use this manual when I need to remember what they're for.
Section 4a (12A) or 4b (13B). http://www.jimrothe.com/mazda/84_tra...ual/index.html

Which colors don't match? The wires from the tranny switches or the ones from the harness?

I don't remember why I was confused as to what didn't match...?? It's late, I'll have to look under the car again tommorow. But I do know whatever I do have hooked up isn't for my reverse lights b/c they don't work... unless I have two bad bulbs..? I'll look into it tommorow.

I just looked at some transmissions I have hanging out in my basement. It seems the newer trannys I have follow the colors above, a 87TII, & some 2nd gen n/a not sure of the year... but my 12A trannys do not. They both have has two sensors w/yellow and red wires instead. Just figured I'd throw that out there.

I kinda figured the polarity didn't matter right away when both plugs coming off the tranny side were female, if they're all just switches it'll complete the circut hooked up eitherway. From the looks of my first picture I have the Over Top Switch (blue wires) hooked up... Whatever the hell that does. That link you posted seemed MIGHTY helpful even though I only cruised it breifly.
