Unhappy please help i think i might have blow my motor

alright, i was eating at mcdonalds, and then when i went to start my car, i heard this like little klinck and then my car sounded all dumb, i would still idle fine, but it has NO power, i can even keep 60 in 5th, i gotta have it in 4th, but i could shut the car off and it would start again, but it just will hardly go. are there any suggestions on what could be wrong, or do you think its a seal?

does your car have a carb? If so, check the passenger side of it to the rear. look to see if there is a little spring loaded latch. You'll see an octagon looking thing with 2 little pegs coming off of it. it should be up resting in between the two forks on the top. Reach down with a pair of needle nose pliers while lifting up the spring-loaded forks. The octagon thing should slide right between the forks. This is a very common problem, so no worries. the only thing it was doing was not letting your secondaries open.

If that doesn't fix it, I'll be surprised.

hey, that was the best I could do with the limited info... when you say you have to rev it that high to go... I'd say vaccuum leak somewhere. Does it die really easily on idle?

i dont know how easily it dies on idle, i didnt really test it, all i know is i could rev it up from idle fine, i cant punch it from idle otherwise i would die, and i forgot to put this in there, i took off the trailing and the leading wires off of the rear rotor, and it idles the same way as when they are on, so thats whats makin me feel that the motors blow, sorry i didnt put that in there the first time, i just forgot. i took off the cap and it seems to be alright, its not new, but it looks just fine so does the rotor. i think im gonna go out and test the spark plugs right now to see if those are sparking, and see if i can find anything else out. keep guessin though, try to give me some hope

thanks again, kyle

Exactly HOW MUCH did you eat at McDonalds? These cars only have about a 325lb weight limit!

If the plugs from one rotor housing look fine, but the plugs from the other housing are wet and black, your engine has just eaten an apex seal, which destroyed the housing and rotor on the way out the exhaust port. Rebuild time. The car would still run, but need higher revs to come off the line, sound like a Briggs&Stratton lawnmower when first starting up, and you'd have poor acceleration with no top end.
If the plugs look fine, and there's no excessive smoke coming out the exhaust, your engine is ok.

alright, well there is no smoke comming out and the plugs all look fine, but whats wrong then, how do i fix it, could it be a problem with my carb cuz i have been having problems with that for the last half year or so. i do need the high revs to get off the line, but like i said the plugs are fine and there isnt any smoke commin out, so whats up and how is it fixed.

thanks, that gives me lots of hope!

Did you check the engine fuse? I blew an engine fuse in my '82 once. The car had no power, would barely launch in first and wouldn't rev past 4500. I didn't even know the 12A HAD an engine fuse, but out of morbid curiosity, I checked my fuses, and sure enough, the fuse marked 'engine' had blown. 50 cents later, the car ran fine.

Hopefully that's all it is.
