pedal assembly

It's been a while since i've posted, so i'll try to make this one count

I'm Looking into swapping a manual transmission into my 82, and have heard that the 83 and earlier pedal assemblies are different from the 84-85 assemblies.

what exactly is different, and is there any benefit of one over the other?

Thanks in advance

There is a stud mounted on the firewall. So in order to use a 84-85, you have to slot that hole in the bracket that bolts up to the firewall/brake booster.

I had a little too much to drink tonight so if you dont understand me, feel free not to PM me.

So there's no difference with the pedals themselves, or the wiring (brake light, cruise, whatever), it's just a bracket issue.

I have access to both versions, just wasn't sure if there was anything "improved" or better with the newer style.

thanks

the pedals themselves are different, yes. mounting is a touch different as wacky touched on it a little bit. basically, the 81-83 pedals are partially secured by a stud and a nut. teh 84 and 85's are not. they are just bolted to the firewall. slot the 84-85 pedal assembly for the stud if you use that assembly.

As they said the pedal "frame/support" is different, but 84/85 pedals can be installed on a 83 and older frame with little difficulty. The only thing that requires any modification is the clutch pedal since 83 and older use a simple spring to return the pedal where the 84/85 has that crazy looking shock absorber/spring assembly, simply cut off the brakcet on the clutch pedal for that and drill a hole for the spring and on it goes. The rest pretty much bolts right up. Hope that made sense.....

so there's no real benefit to using the newer style.

I guess i will go with the 82 correct assembly.

Thanks

How about the other way? Will a S2 pedal box bolt straight into a S3 body?

the only benifit, if you can call it that, is that the pedals are wider and flatter and you get more shoe/pedal contact. i personally lie the 84-85 pedals the best.

I much prefer the 84/85 style pedals, the earlier ones are much to narrow for me to heel-toe properly and are just generally annoying to operate. I've swapped to 84/85 pedals on both my 83's...
