also, quick questions, am i able, or supposed to, wet sand my paint before i clearcoat it? Ive heard taht on regular paints u wetsand before clearcoat and when u clearcoat the shiny color will come back, but i dont know if its true, nor do i know if it works on metallic paints

You can wet sand your base coat, but I wouldn't, unless it has too much orangepeel or runs. Solid colors are easier to wet sand, than the metallics are. Once you sand too far, you will need to re-base. For the best job, make sure your primer/sealer coat is as smooth as you want your finish coat (sand with 350 grit wet). You can also wet sand the clear coat, then buff out.

Those pix look like they were taken in my yard 2 years ago. The original was a faded and abused Red (no rust) so I sanded, pulled dings. bumped creases and bondoed until the surface was nice then shot with 17 rattle cans of Home Depot Apple Red. Think I rubbed it out with 600-800.

Looks good so far man, but I think you'll have to bring it down to GR when finished to receive my final approval!

Good luck with it...

Good job! Are you guys doing this in your garage? Is your dad a painter? This one of the many things I want to learn.

That doesn't look like a stock color, may be wrong though. If it isn't stock, what is it and what brand of paint are you using?

Underside of the hood looks damn good, have fun wet sanding, not one of my favorite tasks.

yes its being done in my garage. My dad painted cars a few years back at a local auto place and have painted a few of our cars/trucks as well. \we've done a pretty good job. A few spots where some scratched in the primer showed through but the wetsanding tomorrow should fix that.

As for brand of paint im not really sure, we got it from parts plus, they mixed it for us. Its called passion red mica, its got a **** ton of metallic in it so its real sweet. I had wanted rx8 velocity red but its a 3 step mix costing about 146 dollars a quart so he said he could make this, which is slightly darker, for a mere 46 dollars a quart.

I soooo want to paint my own car, you are making me envy. I need to find someone in my part of town to help me out. More like who has a garage and a compressor. Let me know how much base and clear it took incase I ever get around to painting mine.
