overfilling the oil?

My local Mazda dealership was having a $21 special on lube-oil-filter, so I figured what the heck, and had them do my RX-7 yesterday.

Naturally, I checked everything afterwards, and discovered that they'd put in 1/2 quart too much oil.. it was 1/2 quart past the "full" mark. I've never had it that full before. Should I be concerned about this? I don't want to blow an oil seal or a flywheel seal or whatever.

Please don't laugh.. too much.

$21??? You got ripped off buddy.

Half a quart up won't hurt you.

I work at a mazda dealership and I know that they just pump 5 quarts of 10w-30 into everything. whether it be a miata or a F350. Pull that **** out and get some GTX 20-W50

Well, I brought my own oil to the dealership.. Castrol 20-50 of course. I didn't want to say that up front, because well you know how it is..

I had about 4 1/2 quarts sitting on the front seat.. so I guess it's probably my fault, darn it.. I usually only take 4 quarts with me.

Thanks for the advice, you guys! I guess it'll be okay with an extra 1/2 quart of oil. It uses about 1/2 quart every 1500 miles, anyway.

Hey Pele!.. how's the antenna mast?.. still long and straight?

What the heck??? Do your own oil and oil filter! My 1st gen is so easy, you simply slide the oil pan under the car and you can easily reach the oil pan's bolt and no real work really. Ofcourse I have a header, which makes it really easy.

I have a lazy streak sometimes. But I should consider myself lucky, and take this as a WARNING to do it myself from now on!.. which is what I'm gonna do. No excuses.. and working on the car in the summertime is a good, um, excuse to have a beer.
