Opinions please, smart or dumb mod?
Opinions please, smart or dumb mod?
in the first pic i replaced the tube with two air filters and plugged the inlet nipple. Also is that thing in front of the dynamic chamber the EGR?
mod #1 dumb or smart?

in the second pic i removed the air pump hose and fitted an air filter over the air box fitting.

mod #2 dumb or smart?
by the way, i tried running it, and it runs fine.
thanks for your opinions

The first thing is the idle control solenoid.
The only 1st gen with an EGR is the 1980 California model.
Both "mods" are pointless,as they do nothing for the engine.Neither mod adds HP, or reduces drag, load, draw on the engine.
Now you just have more air filters to clean...........change it back to stock.

If you want to do something that is beneficial. Dump the stock air filter element(assuming it is stock) and put a KN in. Then relocate the Air temp sensor from the dynamic chamber to a spot in front of the Air flow meter.

well thanks for telling me what there is no EGR valve, i've set it back to stock. But i still opted to keep the set up in the second pic, accept that i will stick an air filter in the air pump tube.
The air pump sucks air from the air box, so without it being there, their would be slightly more (immeasurable amount probably) air going through the intake tube.
The valve in the first picture is known as a BAC (Bypass Air Control) Valve and is used to let air through to compensate at idle. When these go bad when you let off the throttle at mid - higher rpm it will drop below idle and come back up or sometimes even die. These are known to get ugly and start causing this issue. The valve to the right of the BAC valve is a solenoid that turns on to immediately let air through for the Air Conditioning since it puts an immediate strain on the engine.
It is pretty common to pull that tube in the second picture and put a breather filter on the air pump and just cap the hole in the airbox. I used the little rubber foot to a metal chair as it fit perfectly and is black
I don't think it has any effect but it sure looks neat.
