operating temp question
my car doesn't seem to want to get up to a good operating temp especially now that its getting cooler out. Is this because it doesn't have the under belly pan? I also noticed that my fan runs all the time. isn't the point of a fan clutch so that the fan only runs when needed? It almost seems like my fmoc works a lil too well.

The fan clutch does not stop the fan from completely spinning; the fan clutch merely slips less when it gets hot. It will still spin the fan when things are cold.
Personally, I like the electric fans better. You can turn them on only when needed, when the temp gets hot.
Have you had your car long enough to be sure the temp gauge is working right? Have you verified temperature with something else like one of those hand held IR pyrometers, or physically stuck a thermometer in the radiator cap hole?

^^^ Thermostat! It's cheap, easy to replace. It has happened to me a few times, it's always been the t-stat.
If you have a carb with a manual choke you can easily tell if it is the gauge or if the engine really isn't warming up by seeing if the choke **** takes forever to return. forever = cold engine

get #24960
Note how 24960 has a little disc that sticks down below the main normal thermostat. That little lower disc is important; it works to cover a passageway in the housing. If you buy one without the little lower disc, things won't work right.
If you are sure the engine is not warming up, then replacing the t'stat would be a good place to start. It doesn't take long to put one in.

well i forgot to snap a pic but would removing the fan shroud help? what else can I do to help it reach a good operating temp? also it sounds like the bearings in my fan are making a clacking noise could i just mount a flex fan straight to the pulley?
