Unhappy One thing after another...

Okay. I got the 7 back to sorta drivable condition and attempted to move it off my yard per my parent's wishes. Road noise was loud as all hell being misaligned and all, but the front tires were half used Kelly Chargers so it's no big loss. When I get an alignment, I'll get new tires as well.

Anywho. I was on my way to a temporary storage area (Back parking lot of my church, awaiting the loan of a towing dolly to get it to a friend's farm.) and about half way there, the car lost power (I noticed no tach soon there after as well.) Then about 100 ft of coasting later, it died on me.

I'm thinking I lost the trailing ignitor because of the loss of the tach, and I'm thinking I lost the leading ignitor because it won't run at all. The tach needle doesn't even wiggle as I try to crank it as it usually does.

Can anyone confirm my suspicions? Whats the part number of that GM ignitor that will work? And finally, Can I run 10 miles on leading alone or do I need two ignitors?

Pele, tommorow I'll grab the ignitors off of mine and give them to you for shipping. Let them be for good use instead of the crusher, as I know sadly that is where my darling will end up.

Thank you for your offer, but I need to figure something out today or tomorrow as it's on a public road with plates from my Honda. Are you going to part the rest of her out?

There isnt much to part out really, not to justify paying to get the car back, as I've already got the exaust at my house. (Getting ready for smog testing next month, now not a problem) I'd be willing to get rid of that, a racing header and collector pipe, left the muffler on it. I've also got a car cover, made for the RX-7, has a little decal on it and everything, couple of books, mazda rebuild book and hayes. The only thing left on the car work anything would be the door panels, which I had just gotten last week, of all the ******* irony. If anyone wants any of this contact me.

Okay. I was just thinking of the interior if it's black or grey and in good condition... I will buy the car cover off of you though.

(I don't want to seem like a vulture, but people tend to take care of insurance and disposal in a timely manner.)

Sitting for two and a half months, and yeah. I never thought of that possibility until now. But the lack of tach tips me off to no ignition. Still, at less than $5, it couldn't hurt. Thanks.

I think you're right on the money...

Sounds like a trailing igniter for sure. My car car did the exact same thing, with the exact same symptoms. The fact that the tach runs off the trailing coil pretty much confirms it in my eyes. Knowing what they cost, I'd suggest you take CraigG up on his generous offer

Even if you have to have the car towed you'll still be ahead of the game.

Thumbs up ???

Went back this morning and after a few extra secconds of cranking, it fired right up.

Anywho. Got it the extra 10 miles to my church parking lot. (After almost loosing it on the parkway... Misalignement is bad enough, then it had to rain.) Parked, came back an hour later to park it in the other direction so the plate is harder to see. It died soon after that.

What's an ignitor consist of? Anyone got an internal schematic of one? Possible heat related...

CraigG... If you could, ship the ignitors with the car cover, please do. (Check your PM)

I will rebuild this car when I get the cash. Until then, every action I do will be dedicated in keeping her.
