One more Thumbs Up for the FC starter on an FB

'82 GSL 12A Manual Trans.

Put a new reman FC starter on. '87 N/A Manual Trans Starter. Napa had no trouble using the 12a starter as a core. And the FB/FC starters were virtually the same price.

I had the longer bolt/nut sitting in my tool box at work!

Put it on today. Spins that motor over much faster and lights off even easier!

Definite Thumbs Up for something as simple as a longer bolt/nut!

And no, it doesn't sound funny or bad. It sounds like a Gear Reduction starter should. ALL Starters IMHO should be gear reduction.

Hmmm, will this work on an SA as well? I've seen other threads discussing it but
no mention if an SA is too different or not. Guess I'll have to search thru some stuff.

No SA experiance, sorry. If a FB starter works on a SA, I would assume the FC one would also.

FC starter needs to be N/A and Manual Trans.

Did you have to grind out your bellhousing to get it to fit? I just modded my REPU's bellhousing for an FC starter yesterday.

All I had to do was get the longer bolt with nut. Literally like a 10min in and out process including jacking the car up, putting it on jack stands, disco battery, r&r, reconnect battery, test fire, lower car.

The bellhousing in my REPU was hogged out years ago by me. And yes they're very easy to deal with. I pulled mine in like a minute today.

FB trans don't need to be hogged out like the old school ribcases do. Speaking of hogged, they (FC starters) still sound like a stuck pig to me. Suwee!
