OMP working?

How can you tell if oil is being injected into the carb? My plastic lines are 34 years old and still look good, but I can not tell if the oil is being injected by looking in the carb.

I don't want to wait for the next oil change to see if I used a quart of oil. If memory serves me, a quart should be consumed every 1500 to 1800 miles. Is this right?

An easy way to know for certain is to have your engine (warm) idle and take a line off to ensure you are getting a small amount of oil dropping out.

At the same time, if you wish, you may use a syringe to add a few drops of oil down the primary throat from the side you have removed. That way your motor is still getting proper oil. Then reconnect line and do the other side.

I did this with my car just to make sure.

The OMP flow rate is quite small, I think 2.5CC's over 6 mins at 2000RPM. Someone will confirm, the exact figure is in the Mazda books etc.

From my research, the OMP is very reliable. if the lines look like they are in good shape, and OMP is not leaking from where it is on the front cover, you are usually ok.

Thanks! I will try that. The OMP is dry and there are no signs of leakage.

Do you guys add a lubricant to the fuel.

Some do. Me ferinstance. My OMP seems to work fine, but I always throw in 4oz of cheep (Walmart!) gear oil into each full gas fill-up. It costs nothing and can't hurt...great peace of mind for me. Do get some odd looks at the gas pumps tho when I go thru my Routine...
