Yeah no kidding.

One other thing I was thinking for the apparent fuel starvation issues now at high rpms is that because of the earlier problem of the engine running so rich I could not take it to high rpms and keep it there, I wasn't demanding out of the carb and fuel pump what a SP at high rpms while at WOT will demand, thus I wasn't seeing that problem before.

Judging from the way the engine was pulling in 5th at 90-100 mph, I'm sure I could take it to around 130 mph, once I get the new pump in.

Of course we would never race on the streets

And we are like a big family. Sh17, 1984se has helped with most of my mods, wacko has provided his helpful advice, and now I'm about to use all that to abuse them

It's all in the family

Yeah i had some debris in the old nova one time, shes got an edelbrock 850. Had a damn midget stuck in there. the motor blew him out quick.

Hmm, to update on this, exactly 4 days later the car is bogging again after 4k rpm. Can't figure this out. Oh well. Today is the last day of the purolator pump. Tomorrow the Carter goes in. If that's the problem, that should solve it.

Well, it might be able to do more, but I'm afraid I'll run out of gear after that. You might be able to do 130 on your SE, but I'm pretty sure I can get there faster

After just getting my new pump and FPR installed and see how it performs with them, the penny dropped. Right now with the new pump, car is bogging badly like it used to when the carb with huge fuel jets that I have on now was installed. One funny thing is that the pressure gauge in the FPR was not even moving from its minimum when I had the earlier pump. Now it's registering. So my conclusion is that the other pump was barely able to keep the proper pressure, effectively creating a lean condition, which then allowed the huge jets to not flood the engine with too rich a mixture, and then the car would all of a sudden have a lot of punch at high rpms. That's the best theory I can come up with.
