The ol' RE header swap w/ silencer.... *pics*

So I finally got my RE header installed.

Crusty ebay RE header I bought for $90 shipped.

Bead blasted and painted... looks good as new... I used 3M BBQ grill flat black. It seems to hold up for a pretty long time on my turbo cars down pipes so I'm hoping it will hold up to rotary heat too. Don't see why it wouldn't.

Comparison to stock manifold...

Stock manifold.

Install...

Still running factory orig muffler, I can feel quite a diff in low end torque and upper RPM pull!

I take it you bought the RB gasket to mate the header to the pre-silencer? How was the fitment? Will the BBQ paint hold up, not for long. The only thing that will is the ultra high temp ceramic coating. Looks very good, I like shiney new exhaust gaskets, lol.

My setup didn't have the second pre-silencer. Where does that one fit in the exhaust system?

I used bbq paint on mine and it is holding up fine.

Looks good! Very curious to know how that second one fits in as well.

I have that same setup and the second silencer bolts right up to the first. The first one angles towards the tranny and the seconds joins it right near the tail housing and angles back out toward the stock muffler location of the over the axle pipe. Only issue I have is the header/collector is just a tad lower so the bullet silencers don't tuck up under the car as much as I like, but otherwise it fits fine and doesn't drag or bottom out.

The second silencer was rotted out pretty bad on the inside. I didn't use it.

I'm tempted to use one of the local exhaust shops silencers behind the first silencer to get a true quiet exhaust note.

I also have a 2 chamber magna flow just hanging out in the garage I got for free. I could throw in there, I hear they hold up to the heat pretty well, but I doubt it will quiet down the exhaust all that much.

So the setup would be header, first silencer, second silencer or muffler, and the factory muffler.

What do you all think? would the magna flow quiet it down much?

I have a Magnaflow that I am running as a presilencer. It works ok, but not near as quiet as a true RB setup. If I ever come into some kind of money, I will go the whole streetport setup and I am sure it will quiet down alot.

On the other hand, my car sounds like a toned down version of a Spec 7 car and I get alot of compliments on it from other car guys. I dunno now that I really think about it.

You have a magna flow as a silencer with the stock muffler? What is your whole setup?

RB header (normal one that goes to 1 out) to a RB round muffler that I am Using as a silencer to stock muffler with rusted off end pipes. :P

getto as crap but it helped out a TON through the whole rpm range. I should take a picture of it one of these days.

Sorry, I am at working answering this and a ton of tickets as well that I just got in. (Bunch of lab computers are crashing and I am on the phone with dell getting some parts) My mind isn't working. :P

RB header -> Magnaflow muffler (there is a thread on this that lists the part number) -> stock muffler.

decided to skip the magnaflow, and added a small silencer behind the RE silencer, then to the original (new) muffler.

Heres some pics, sounds like it did before. Which was a straight pipe to the OEM muffler. not any louder with the header.

And one of the heat shield I slapped together...

I really wish it was a little bit quieter, but I guess it's just the nature of the beast...
