ok, so i may have a "dumb question"

so, as you have probably seen, the front rotor on my car let go. but it was supposedly rebuilt only 40k ago... if it is truly just an apex seal, or even the housing (since i have at least one spare good one) what would be the issue in getting this kit?

Mazda Rx7 12A Atkins Rotary Water O-Ring Kit & Apex Seals

i mean, everything else SHOULD be good, tho i know i wont really know until i get it apart.

you answered your own question..
DON'T buy anything until you get it apart and inspect it.

If its an apex seal then it's definitely a housing too. Out of 5 motors I tore down recently only one was completely useable. Flattened apex seal springs love that. Good apex seals and very nice housings. 70,000 mile motor

Just because everything SHOULD be good, doesn't mean that it will be. Once you tear it apart you could find all sorts of things that aren't in spec anymore.

I would just wait until you have then engine apart and cleaned up before buying any parts.

the 79-80 engines aren't, although the difference is an emissions passage, which might not matter.

the 81-85 engines are the same front and rear.

the 86-2003 engines aren't although again its an emissions passage, and you can drill it if needed

Don't some of the later model FD engines have the spark plug placement different?

exactly what i needed lol. thank you. so i now know if i get it apart and the front housing is junk (which it probably is) i have one, if now two, that will work. the engine in mine is supposed to be either an '82 or '83 and the extra i have should be the original '82.

the S4 engines have a different spark plug placement, so they can't be mixed with S5, FD or JDM S4 housings.

Never had a problem with a flywheel nut or the front pulley 19mm bolt. 3/4 impact set on 5. It's pop pop pop pop vrooooom. comes right off. I have a snap on impact but I recently bought a harbor freight 3/4 inch impact 'just' to see if had any ***** for 90 bucks. It kicks ***. Get an impact and that bolt will be a distant memory.

So even with the flywheel not locked into place an impact should have broken the nut loose. Is the crankshaft turning very easy when youb hit that with you impact gun? I have never had a problem with these coming off. But in most cases people don't realize that there air delivery is restricted. Most smaller compressors have a 1/4 " outlet pipe for air distribution. I switched all mine to 3/8 output piping and I get full force with my impact gun. Run 1/4" and its game over. Sounds strong but rating is bottomed out.
