Ok guys Jspec where to get question...

Ok I called http://www.fc3s.org about a J-spec 13bt (91) and they said a $1000 which seemed reasonable.

Well heres the screwed up part... They DONT guarantee it will be complete. I mean **** i need it to be complete from oil pan to intercooler. I mean I could be minus an alternator or something like that, but if the SOB is missing the intake manifold, turbo or whatever. I might as well just throw a $1000 + shipping in the garbage. so my questions are :

1) Anywhere else you know that sells them cheap and will GUARANTEE the needed parts will be there

2) Anyone ever been screwed by these guys?

3) Anything else Im missing?

4) http://www.corksport.com are they OK?

Im so ready to do this, but when they said it may not be complete I was like '****'

lol i geuss i can answer this one too for ya
first of all about the guarentee they arnt going to give you just a block with a cracked turbo for the most part everything is going to be there. some dont have alternators or misc bolt on's

setzep got a cosmo from them and they got some snow in it during shipment or something and lost compression so he got another one sent out. sounds pretty good to me!

i got my 88 motor from corksport i wanted a 89+ one for the turbo etc etc but they kinda screwed up when i went to pick it up and only had 88's at the time, so i got to pick through and find the best looking one. derek is a cool guy can hook up the japanese parts

oh and one thing is you never know what your going to get some people have gotten motors with $1500 twin disc tilton clutches and upgraded turbos before.

anything else?

I haven't ordered form them personally, but a friend has several time for his race engines. Try www.ctintl.com. HE said they do warranties and compression checks.

So you recommend going with corksport.com? I will give them a call. I dont really care if it has aftermarket parts on it, of course that would be cool. I just need to be sure it has all the manifolds, turbo, intercooler, fuel rails, injectors etc... You know what I mean... Also I really need it to be a 89+ cuz they seem to have the best parts, plus they will be the lowest mileage... Another thing that scares me is the amount of time they have probally been sitting around... And how do you do a compression check on a motor that doesnt have a starter to crank it fast enough? Thanks man

you might want to try thepartstrader.com . i found my 13bt there for 600 bucks, compression checked but no warranty but the motor only had 50,000 miles on it.

I can find no evidence that there is such a thing as a jspec for a 13bt motor, there seems to be only one version which was used on all models.

Normally MAZDA tried the motor on the home market first and would subsequently issue an improved veresion. The 13bt was on sale for some months before a left hand car was marketed. As yet I have not seen a new specification document. When the improved version was sold from 1989 there was only one spec.

The advantage of importing an engine is its price and condition, Japanese cars were driven less distances and at lower speeds. If the Japanese agent is good, then the engine will be in reasonable condition with somelife in it before a rebuild is necessary.

Japanese T2 intercoolers are slightly different from US spec, as is the intake manifold... we're talking exceedingly minor difference though (like there's a dent to clear something on one model that isn't there on the other).

Peejay, thanks I did not notice the difference. As you say they are very minor. Sometimes Mazda changes its suppliers, and you get very minor differences in the new part. Sometimes it may be a product improvement. The reason for changing their alloy wheel manufacture was different, but I am not sure about the 12at turbo model change.

Some of the tune shops here stock over 40 secondhand motors, mostly imported. For example, www.dysonrotary.com Have a look at their 13b it puts out 800+hp and does the 1/4 in 8.2 seconds Another thing which is good on their site is an automatic costing form. You can cost different configurations and see if it is in the same order as the credit card balance!

my "j-spec" 13b doesnt have a egr valve which us turbo2's do, and as peejay said there are some innercooler differences. and the majority of 13b motors you get from japan are out of late model cars that are auto's i was told mine came out of a japanese version of a 929 thats was auto.

This doesn't sound right to me. When I talked to dave (talk to him, he's also fc3s.org on the forum here) he told me that it would have everything attached and it did... Even had the a p/s pump, air pump and a starter but not that you need those. Now since I had to send that engine back from low compression he sent me out another one but this one is missing the starter and p/s pump (no big loss except I'd like to have the a/t starter so I can run the compression test ) You get everything you can think of. I think they just cut the engine mounts, lift up on the engine and whatever is attatched they cut with a side cutters.

From their site :

These engines are used, low mileage Japanese spec engines. Regarding the condition of these motors, they are generally complete, however keep in mind that a complete motor is just the block, head and intake manifold. All other peripheral parts that happen to be bolted on to the engine are considered to be free parts only and will not be replaced by us if these extra parts happen to be broken or missing. Most engines will have peripheral parts intact, and usable; however they are not guaranteed to be included with every motor sold.
Ok i guess I asked the wrong question then I was scared
