Oil Return Fitting, what and where
Well, I keep getting closer and closer to starting this project. I have read to put the hole in the front cover for the oil return line. What fittings are used? Also any pictures of this. That seems to be a negleted picture spot.
My last turbo car had the return in the oil pan. could I put it there instead of the front cover.
Thanks Guys.

Personally, I can't see why not. If you have a turbo bearing failure, at least the metal flakes will go to the pan where the filter has a chance to prevent the stuff from going anywhere else...

Don't put it in the pan, everywhere on the oil pan is under the oil level. You need to return the oil above the oil level. You can use any kind of fitting you want. I drilled taped the front cover 1/2npt and used a 5/8-1/2npt hose barb on the front cover and made my own adapter for the turbo to 5/8" hose barb.

oil from the front cover oil turbo drain goes directly into the oil pan there is even a baffel so it doesnt spray all over oil pump chain so I guess if you had bearing faliure your screwed any way you look at it

If your oil level is full on the dipstick that is to the top of the pan on a rotary. You can go ahead and plumb your turbo drain into the side of the pan but I don't want to see a post "my turbine seal leaks oil, what should I do".

It's shitty how the T2 turbo sits so low in there isn't it? A turbo drain should never have restriction getting back into the engine. Going up hill or even horizontal isn't good.
