Oil pressure question
I'm having some issues with oil pressure and want to ask a question about the system flow..
The car is a 84 GSL with converted air oil cooler, engine is stock 12a.
I replaced my FC cooler and SS lines with pre-made lines from my local hydraulic shop, and an earlier 12a cooler.
Since then, at cold my oil pressure is normal, but after warmup, it won't get past 40psi. Idles at 10psi or less.
I noticed that oil flows from the front cover to the cooler, and out to the rear part of the engine, then to the filter, into the engine..
While the oil cooler thermostat is open (low engine temp) the cooler is bypassed and pressure reads normal.. So, at operating temp when the thermostat turns on and the bypass closes, then pressure becomes less, what does this mean? There's a restriction in the cooler perhaps?
Any assistance appreciated.

First thing you should do is ensure that you have a good oil pressure sending unit on there. This is the 'golden-mushroom' under your oil filter pedestal, and on the 1st Gen cars, are known for reading erratic oil pressures when they get old.
Assuming that you're not using an external gauge to read oil pressure, and are using the gauge in the dash, this could be a cheap and easy fix and give you peace of mind once again.
IIRC, this is a pretty cheap part at about $30, so I'd start there. HTH,

Yeah, sunpro gauge. Ran a nylon tube from the stock sender location.
I am pretty annoyed at this point. Gotta be something in the cooler, but I spent a good hour and a half messing with it, running compressed air through it, drained it. I didn't have anything to liquid flush it, though. I swapped the thermostat with the previous FC cooler one, but after warmup it still stays at exactly 40psi.. Cold reads normal.
