Just wondering if this was ok for oil pressure while at idle. Its a 83 Gs with about 50k on reman motor. While driving it sits at about half way between 30 and 60. While getting on it it sits just below 60.

it looks a tad bit low. at idle its supposed to be 30 psi, at 1500 rpm it is supposed to go to 60 psi.
theres a couple of small not too bad reasons its that low.
1. are you using the correct weight oil?
2. the oil pressuser sensors could be going bad. it works somewhat but is not correctly accurate
3. the gauge could have a glitch in it
4. the ground (or other wires)connection could be bad.

you need to get a mechanical gauge so you can do test on this(and any) car.

 

Could it also be the oil filter. It wasnt this low when I bought it. I noticed it about 800 miles after my last oil change(first one I did on the car since I bought it). There was a fram filter on it and I installed a mobil 1($9 filter). I think I put gastrol 10w-40 in it.

 

My pressure is around 25-30 at idle and 60 or so under throttle.

 

Heavier weight oil should bring the pressure up a bit. I usually run 20w50, might not be a bad place to start?

 

Also clean the wire at the sender. They are notorious for reading low because of poor connections. Also make sure your engine to body ground is good.

 

+1 on the low oil, mine is in good enough shape that I can use it instead of the dipstick sometimes. Yours looks like mine does if it gets 1/2 to 3/4 of a quart low.

 

The factory spec for a 12A:

64-78 psi @ 3000 rpm
10-26 psi @ idle

 

As jes pointed out, the stock pressure spec is very low, Im sure youre fine.

I personally think you should be running 20-50 in that thing per the FSM, but thats just me. That would bring the pressure up. Also, as Carl mentioned, clean the wire at the sending unit, and make sure you have a good ground.
