Oil pressure gauge fluctuating? WTF

Just started today. Jumped in car to go down to the gas station and get some hot dog buns, cause I'm hungry, and the oil pressure gauge jumps to 60 PSI like normal then start slowly backing down to 0. Does this every time i start the car now. WTF is going on!! These damn cars are like high maintainance women!!!

Check the connection at the sensor, make sure you have a clean connection.

Changed oil and filter today. Topped off everything, still gauge reads first tick mark above 0, or in between 60 and 0. I put 5 quarts of oil in, but does the 13b take 6? I thought i read that somewhere.

on 1st gens the oil pressure guage goes up & down compaired to how hard the engine is working..ie higher rpms=higher oil pressure

Yeah but when i start the car, it goes up to 60, then slowly down to 20 for a second or 2, then drops to 0, and stays there even when driving.

crazy ****. just freaks me out glancing over and seeing the gauge on 0!!! As long as the engine has oil, will it be ok? It's still pumping oil even though the gauge just quit working right? Still makes me uneasy, guess i gotta bite the bullet and put a manual gauge on it!

The sender units die after a while, it's right below the oil filter. They just get corroded internals or something after a while. Note that they have different markings for resistance over different models, though it may not make much of a diff... just get another sender unit from the junkyard.

While you're in that area of the car, inspect the coolant hose that's just below the filter, the edges rott off with oil spillage on them and can leave u with an overheat issue that kills the engine.

FYI, the 13B takes 5 quarts when a filter is changed too.
