aftermarket fuel pump wiring

I installed a holley blue pump and now I notice that the pump sound changes pitch when I use the turn signals or press on the brake pedal. I figure I ought to rewire the thing. I thought I'd seen a how-to for doing this but I can't find it.

I think it involved using the stock wiring, a 30A relay and power from the battery. I took a look at some other wiring projects that used relays and I can't figure out how I really ought to do this.

I made a little diagram based on what I've read so far. Anyone care to set me straight?

Run a circuit breaker between the 12v source and the relay. That way if it overheats, your not stranded somewhere. I rewired my pump the other day and it only took like 20-30 minutes max.

So the diagram is ok except I put the fuse between the battery and the relay?

That makes sense. I think that's what the second wire in the stock pair does.

On another note, that pump is damned loud. I tried to isolate it with some rubber mounts but it's ugly loud. When the harmonics converge with the exhaust and pump, it's really wierd. I need to get a radio back in there to drown out the bad stuff.

I used double rubber to isolate, ie the stock Carter comes with rubber between bracket and pump, I made rubber to fit between bracket and body also, this does help. I used 5/16 fuel line cut into 1/4 inch lengths over the mounting bolts, works pretty well.

My old Holley Blue was on my race car, hell first time I took it out I threw the radio out the window, seriously, I couldn't hear it at full volume.

I'm gonna have to rethink the mounting. I had not thought of using fuel line like that.

Like aussie said, use thick rubber padding. A rubber sandals (slippers as asians would call it) is a good candidate.
