Oil Pan Baffle
Does anyone have any experience with the oil pan baffels for a 12a engine (1982) did you notice any changes in oil temps and what not? Is it worth the purchase of the baffle and the extra oil pan gasket?

If you get it do not get an oil pan gasket, use RTV on both sides of the baffle.
Sheetmetal doesn't seal too good with paper or cork gaskets and it especially doesn't seal too good against 6 different layers.

Tennis, anyone
of coarse theres no warranty,,i've thought about buying
a baffle from mariah..but if i'm going to go through all
that ,i may as well buy a new oil pump,pick up,and
even an extra capacity oil pan,,there is no HP gain from
such a baffle though,,the only gain i think would be
a couple of oil leaks.

Oil Baffle (Air-Oil Separator) 12A All
The Oil Baffle plate slows the return of engine oil as it drains down the pan. By slowing the oil, air that is trapped in the oil (as foam) has a greater opportunity to dissipate.
Removing the air both improves the ability of the oil to transfer heat and reduces pressure drops at high RPM. The plate is sandwiched between the engine and the oil pan. It is recommended that two oil pan gaskets be used, one below and one above the plate, to provide proper sealing. Gaskets not included.

In a piston engine that has a spinning crankshaft right above the oil pan which can whip around and airate (sp?) the oil, I can see an advantage to the baffle... but I don't think you would stand to gain that much in a rotary.

The oil really gets aerated when it gets sprayed into the rotors and tossed around and spashed back out - the baffle plate slows the oil as it goes back to the pan and helps de-aerate it.
Also, the baffle helps keep the oil by the pickup near heavy oiling. Imagine cornering hard with a cup of coffee on the dashboard - the oil sloshes to the side just like the coffee.

The windage tray and baffle i think are not the same
thing..baffle's in the pan keep more fluid from sloshing
side to side,, the tray works different,,, aircraft fuel tanks
are baffled,,race cars,.. the tray is a good idea,period !

4ohfour, the baffle is good for racing or if you run your car at high rpms. I have noticed a difference in oil temp. autocrossing(slightly lower). I run my car at high rpm and this is all it is used for.
