1981, and in their infinite wisdom, they put it back where it belonged in 1984 and 85 SE's.

All rotary engine US cars have the air to oil cooler except the US 1983 to 1985 12a engine cars.
Which have the water to oil cooler that is located under the oil filter.

Yep, 83-85 12a's have the beehive oil cooler. However for the 84 and 85 guys, the mounts are there for you to put in a GSL-SE oil cooler without any problems.

I used one from a FC, and mounted it in the air dam.

You would not need to install a GSL-SE oil cooler in a '81-82 because those were equip with the short radiators and the oil cooler is mounted under.

The reason you would use a GSL-SE oil cooler would be if you have the taller 83-85 style radiator.

Personally its easier to find a '79-'82 style oil cooler and buy the short style 3 row radiator.

I have a Rx-4 oil cooler that would work up front like a GSL-SE plus it has a extra row for more cooling.

I forgot to mention that my 81 has an 83-85 engine in it curently so the beehive is present
i have the gsl-se oil cooler, and the lines are coming in the mail.....
these will all be going on my 79 ported rebuilt engine that is going in within the next couple days

i just need tips on mounting the gsl-se oil cooler in my car....

and how does the oil cooler and radiator have anyhting to do with eachother?

The rad in the 81-82 is shorter and thicker so that the oil cooler can mount below.
