secondary's not opening

forgive my ignorance here - I'm a pre-60's kind of mechanic - the kind where you could climb right in the engine compartment and get to know your motor. My son just transplanted a motor from an 82 to an 81 RX7. It was minimal disconnects, r and r'd as an eng/gearbox assembly. I drove the donor car home, so I know it ran like a champ. Everything seemed to come across fine, but the secondary ports on the carb don't seem to be opening, resulting in pretty sluggish performance, as you can guess. Any clues on what I might look at? I'm assuming the butterflys open with a vacuum of some type - they turn free and the son says at about 6000 rpm it lights right up. Thanks!!

did you move anything on top of the motor during the swap. if so, it's possible that one or more of the lines may have cracked. it's always a good idea to replace vacuum lines when you get the chance.

At the back of the carb (toward the passenger cabin), there's a cable with a "T" shaped end. This end is supposed to fit into its 2-prong holder. If this "T" end is not in its holder, i believe the secondaries will not open.
