Oil Cooler Lines...Do I need them? Where can I get new ones?
Ok guys, Im gonna pull an air/oil cooler from a79 in the junk yard for the whopping price of $15. I'll get the cooler, lines, and filter pedistol thing, all for $15 . I thought it was a good deal, but do I really need the lines? I mean, theyre gonna be too short to mount it in front of my rad like I need to (I have the full length rad), so do I need them for the fittings or anything? Also, where can I get lines that are long enough? I saw some at mazdatrix, but arent those just the stock length replacements (im gonna go look at them now)? Also, I can get any oil cooler of any car for $6.50, so if theres one on the FC thats there, should I take that one instead? Also, same thing about the lines...Do I need them? Basically, what would you get if you could get any oil cooler parts from an SA or a non turbo FC? thanks guys .

TJ, if your going to the trouble of fitting a cooler on your car I recommend using one from a 2nd gen.
The SE cooler has cracking problems in the fittings and the cooling tubes on the fitting end of the radiator--just like the earlier first gen models--I know cause I'm in the process of putting a new one on my SE. The FC coolers use banjo fittings which are more robust and if you get a good late model it should be in good conditioin. I'd get the hoses so if you take them to a shop, they can make you some new ones that are longer. That way they will know exactly what type of fittings to use.
On my SE I was thinking about mounting it on the large cross bar (not the suspension) in front of the radiator. Only concern was the power steering coil would need to be moved.
Decided to buy new and keep it stock--for now.
Good luck.

Ok, well then my target tomorrow will be the FC. If it doesnt have the cooler and lines, should I still take the cooler without the lines? If there isint anything I can use there, Ill move on to the SA again. I just need to get rid of that pesky water/oil cooler eventually. Im just gonna gather parts, and then put it all together eventually. I plan on getting the cooler, cleaning it up, and mounting it. Then, Ill know how long of lines Ill need, and then I can have them made. Then I can pull everything off and totally convert it over .

I say get the SA oil cooler AND the short radiator. New radiators are not that expensive. Besides, you may be able to find a used one cheap. It's the right way to do it. In what condition is your current radiator in? Only if yours was near new would I see the point of trying to save it.

Go to a local hydrolic manufacturer and have a set custom made, I did and it was about $130 less then rb pricing. The best part about going this way is you can eliminate the banjo bolt on the rear line, I had them put in a 90* fitting.

Tennis, anyone
Everything from an FC should take care of what you want to do.And yeah,, grab the hose's, banjo bolt, filter piller, and cooler. I'd say look at all the FC's thier, then choose the best parts from the different cars and put together your setup from the best parts. The FC's hose's are long enough.

You don't really need the banjo bolt off the FC, but its easier if you are pulling the stuff off a complete parts car. I didn't have one, so I took one out of the water-oil cooler.
