Oil Cooler from an FC

I feel like an idiot reposting this question, but I'm having no luck with the search. Is there some step by step process of this installation? I'm having cooling issues at the track. I'm replacing the rad and fan, and would like to cool the oil a bit better as well.

You'll have to make custom brackets. I'm guessing you have the beehive... You'll need either an aftermarket oil pedestal or one from an FB that came with an oil cooler. The coolant lines will have to be blocked off or rerouted. I'd give you a step-by-step but I'm waiting on RESpeed to get me my pedestal so I can get started on it.

Pretty simple really. I used some flat bar and 1-7/8" muffler clamps to make mounting brackets for the FC oil cooler, mounted on the round cross tube in front of the radiator. Hoses will have to be custom made, as stock FC hoses are not long enough. For the oil filter pedestal to replace a beehive, either an older type that uses bolts threaded into the rear plate, or the later style with studs (like the beehive already has) can be used. I just used one from an FC.

As mentioned, trochoid listed a very detailed "how-to" thread a few years back, it should still be available in the archives section of this forum.

For the oil cooler lines, using racing beat set as an example, can you get the FB lines and swap (2) -10AN to 16mm for (2) -10AN to 18mm fittings to fit the FC oil cooler?

The RB braided stainless lines, whether for an FB or FC, would almost surely be too short.
The hoses I made for doing this required somewhere around 5-7 feet of bulk hose. I can't give an exact figure, because I bought 4 ft on the first trip, and an additional 3-5 ft on a return trip. I didn't bother with braided stainless hose or AN fittings. I reused the stock FC banjo bolt fittings, and used hydraulic hose rated for 500F + and over 1500 PSI. I figured if the temp got that hot, or the pressure that high, there was a much bigger issue than a chance of popping an oil hose.......... It's been 3-4 years since I did this, and have not had any issues.
The hydraulic hose far exceeds the ratings of the stock Mazda oil cooler hose, which is not much more than oil resistant heater hose with an outer woven cloth cover. I bet it has a burst pressure well under 500 PSI.

I should also add that on my 83, I retained the A/C condenser (functional A/C is a MUST when temps frequently top 100F in the summer), so the cooler had to be mounted a bit higher and further forward compared to the location shown in the archived write-up. This caused the supply (top) hose to need routed under the cooler, looped back around in front, and then attached to the cooler on the way back from the front.

I'm doing one right now with stainless -10 AN lines... If I can ever get it done, I'll post up some pics. Still waiting on my oil pedestal...

ok, so I'm reading cause my oil cooler is leaking... i have a GSL-SE. Is the FC oil cooler compatible? Are the fittings the same for the GSL-SE and the FC oil cooler? It would be much easier if it were a direct swap for me... at least I don't have the beehive. ;-)

If ur cooler is leaking and u allready have a front mount ur better off taking it off taking it to a radiator shop or some1 who can weld leaking Oil coolers and getting it repaired. If u get the FC oilk cooler youll have the get new lines and that isnt cheap. When i did my FC FMOC mod it cost me almost 100$ in fittings/hose/bungs.
