oil cooler
post a want to buy ad in the 1st gen for sale/wanted section. you may want to replace the oil cooler lines when you replace the cooler. you can also have your current cooler tig welded. i have all of mine welded at a friend's engine shop.
1st gen FMOC's are notorious for cracking bungs and leaking. If that's the case, use a high speed bur to cut a U-shaped grove 1/2 the depth of the crack and have it tig welded. Costs me around 15 bucks here to have one tigged. Never reuse the copper crush washers.
well i havent pulled the cooler yet, im gonna do that today, but i pulled it out of the garage and warmed it up, pulled it back in, and almost dead center a flood of oil came out, so im wondering if it caught a rock or something
i just picked one up out of a junkyard from an FC should be a direct replacement right? no i need to buy new oil lines or do the stock FB ones work on the FC oil cooler? im going to replace all the crush washers when i do swap em but the ******* in the junkyard decided to CUT thru the lines instead of unbolting them from the motor.....

yeah im gonna go back over there to the yard and break the bolt loose myself then i gotta find a hydraulic shop and see if they will make me some lines.... can i use regular rubber hose with cose clamps? or does it have to be the high pressure hoses?
As in heater hose, no. The temperature and pressure far exceeds heater hose specs. Crimped ferrel connections are the only way to go, clamps won't hold. Tell the hydraulic shop that you need hose that exceeds 300* and 300 psi, they'll set you up with the correct hose. Hose needs to have a steel braided inner layer.

I have the same issue! 79' 12a with a leaking oil cooler (the one underneath the radiator) i bought a washer from mazdatrix and i will install it this weekend..hopefully it's just the bolt leaking and not the bottom of the cooler
i upgraded my oil system and installed a remote cooler with a built in fan set up on a temp switch. also i upgrade to a bigger filter for more flow. i love my set up, the temp NEVER gets too high and trust me i run the crap out of it, and my pressure stays at a resonable amount.
