Oil Cooler

Which year model has the best oil cooler?

Is it worth while adding an oil temperature gauge, if so what is a good reading?

Anything that will allow you to monitor your engine is worth it. At normal operating temp, the oil temp read almost the same as the water temp. With mine, I never seen no more than 10* difference between the two gauges at LA's stop and go traffic.

Which cooler is better? neither.

For an oil temp sender you can:

1. put a T in with the oil pressure sender
2. drill and tap the cooler banjo bolt
3. replace the sub zero sender
4. replace the drain plug.

Oil temps should not go over 200°F

i've heard that the air oil cooler(under rad) cools better than the bee hive cooler. makes sense since the latter only gets as cool as the coolant where as the outside air is cooler than that. don't really know since all i've ever used is the air oil cooler. as for guage, like previous post stated about engine monitoring. but if the oil is getting too hot, the engine probably is too.

It's ok, you were probably thinking about which cooler was better for your beer.
Since they don't stay in their long enough to warm up then neither one would matter, lol. rx7doctor

Thanks all, I will go to the front mounted oil cooler with a gauge. The beehive on the 85 is a little suspect for efficiency when its around 100 F outside.

I looked at oil temperature gauges today, found one for AU$30, with sender etc. from Autobarn. Now to take a closer look at where I can put it in :-)
