Oil Burning Prob

well im new to the forums and new to rotarys. Well i recently bought a 82 RX7 with a 13b swap and i noticed when i really get on the throttle and get up in th 7k range, when i let off white smoke starts coming out of my exhaust for a while until i apply throttle again. I asked my friends older brother, who is really into rotarys what was wrong. I cant remember exactly what he said the name of the unit was, but it was something like theres O-rings in some kind of oil control unit that have gone bad, and that im gonna need to rebuild the engine. I expected something like this would come up since i bought since i bought the car for $900( i dont think it was a bad deal). Sorry for the horrible description but its the best i could come up with...

well heres some picks of my new project...

Looks like a clean car.

Thats pretty common with a tired engine. It can still run for a long time, although youll need to keep an eye on the sparkplugs and oil level, until you get a chance to rebuild it.
The oil control rings are allowing oil to enter the combustion chamber when you let off the throttle at high RPMs.When the engine is running fast, and the throttle plates slam shut, there is no where for the engine to draw air in from.So the high vacuum(low manifold pressure) in the combustion chamber will suck oil past the worn oil control rings, causing the white/blue smoke until you open the throttles back up,or the RPMs drop.

Yep, sure sign of worn oil control o-rings. Best repair is a rebuild. If you send the engine out for a rebuild, that will pretty much eat up your entire 1900. If you have good mechaical skills, tools and a place to work, you can rebuild it yourself for 1/2 that price.

Welcome to the forum and the Darkside. Nice clean 7 btw. If you think you want to try a rebuild yourself, in my sig line is a link to the online FSMs and other reading material.

I have a similar issue with my control rings (209,000 miles on engine). I was able to reduce it by at least 90% (except when I'm racing autocross and exceeding the redline) by using lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer. Only a rebuild will really fix the problem, but the Lucas can keep you running for a very long time if you're not quite ready to rebuild yet...

I think that, that is the first aftermarket steering wheel I've seen in a FB that I didn't hate. Congrats.
