oh no. need help please

Can some one please help me? This morning i was charging the car battery ( I have a 85 gsl) and when i went in the car to turn the car on, some thing in the engine compartment made a "poof" so i poped the hood and nothing was wrong. then i tryed to start it again and the starter dident turn, and the dash lights dident even go on, and the interior lights dident work either. I checked the fuses and they are all good. What could be wrong? Please help me.

there is a brown "block" near the battery that houses the links. you will have 3 links if you have a 12A and 5 if you have a gsl-se.

ok i checked the box and all the links are connected and is still wont do anything. when i tryed to start it a poof came from the hood no smoke no nothing it was not loud at all either.

Edit: Oh yeah i even replaced the connetions that connect to the battery so i know its not the battery and the headlights will turn one but they will not flip back down.

Check or replace the big wires from the battery to the starter. Maybe your ground wire cracked or something... they are cheap aluminum and crack very easily when they get old.
I know this dosent have anything to do with the poof, but my car had these same symtoms (minus the poof) and replacing the wires did the trick.

Damn fusible links are a problem, but you can get appropriate wire at Kragens (and, I suppose, any other auto store). Carry a few scraps in your glovebox, along with spare ignitors and fuses.

I must be blessed. 2 years with my car and haven't had any electrical problems at all. Not even a fuse I've had to replace.

Edit: Knock on wood!
