How much does an FB share with an RX-2?
How much does an FB share with an RX-2?
I'm considering picking up an RX-2 but wonder what it'll be like to keep up 5 years down the road. The one I'm looking at would get a fresh 13B, but how much else would transplant to an RX-2? If anyone has some advice on things to check or common mods, let me know, please.
Anything is possible with money.
As long as you're not concerned about keeping it stock, the drivetrain should be fairly easy to keep up with. The challenge is gonna be finding body parts, trim, interior parts and things that there are simply no substitutes for.

Which RX-7 did you try it on? SA's used a 10x1.something (1.25?) thread while FBs use the 12x1.5 thread, same as the engine dowel pins and lug bolts. (Hint hint you people trying to dismantle engines and fighting stuck dowel pins!)
RX-2s are oddball, though. They all had twin-dizzy 12As (twin side seals on rotors, HUGE carbon-aluminum apex seals) and a different trans-to-engine bolt pattern... Basically, you know how you see things listed as being "the same on all rotaries '74-85" or "same on all rotaries '74-02"? Yeah, well, the last RX-2 was a '73, so it's got all the weirdball stuff.
The rearend gears are the same as a 1st-gen/Miata, though. A 1st-gen engine and transmission *combination* should bolt in to an RX-2. But then again, since practically every replacement part for the car is NLA, you'll probably get good at adapting some things and outright fabricating others. Just like the 1st-gen community is going to have to learn to do in a few years.
edit: The transmission would need to be from a '79-80 RX-7, or otherwise have the tailhousing from an SA swapped on, if you don't want to hack floor.
