Angry OH MY GOD.. turbo 12a put on serious hold!!

well today was the day. i was grabbing the last couple pieces of the exhaust to be welded and done when i looked at my engine bay just because i am so happy. i look down at the floor and i see coolant EVERYWHERE. OH FUGGIN NO!!!! what the hell is this? i get under the car and see it's almost friggin just pouring out. last night i had jacked the car up on the drivers side to work on the fender. i guess this pushed the coolant over thru the manifold. there wasnt much left in the motor. i had to refill it since putting the intake on. well i see it's all over my turbo. had obviously killed the gasket between the turbo and exhaust manifold. so i say fork it. i pull the turbo off and coolant just FLOODS out of the manifold ports. can this stuff mess gaskets up???? ahhh, anyways in this intake manifold i notice a damn tiny hole just leaking coolant. i get back under the car and coolant is leaking out where the gasket is. but only on the manifold side. it's not flush. i re did it and tried another gasket. same thing. BASICALLY i need a new intake manifold but i cant use a stock one because then i have to redo how i'm going to space the turbo out. i got this intake manifold from Robert at Rotary Shack and he ported it and made the acv area alot smaller to give room for the turbo. i am not bashing or anything, it is a damn nice piece of work, but i can not use it now. i am depressed. i did not sleep at all last night just thinking of how awesome it was going to be to finally drive this beast after months and months of building and waiting on parts. here are pics.

right now i have no motivation to mess with this car any further.

No big deal man. Plug the coolant passages in the rotor housings so no coolant goes into the manifold. Wouldnt that solve your problem?

well here is part of the problem.

this can be welded closed, what are these manifolds made of? (stock ones)

also, carl.. what would i use to block the passages on the rotor housings???? sounds like the damn perfect idea

They are made out of aluminum. The face of that manifold doesnt look very flat, looks uneven, might cause you to have leaks. Hell just JB weld that little hole.

I use 20mm freeze plugs (autozone) and hammer them into the housing. Some guys just epoxy quarters to block the holes.

It does look uneven, but it's good enough. While you're at autozone get silicone gasket sealer. Just lightly coat both sides of the intake manifold gasket with it right before you put it on. Also, the exhaust gasket that got coolant all over it will be fine, don't worry about that.

That's good to hear. I glad your making progress. My 12a turbo just hit another pit fall. Waiting on parts. Just got a urethane float for my weber IDA, only one I have ever seen but it will solve all the problems I'm have with the sinking brass ones

I should have it in about two or three weeks

the exhaust is kindaaaaaa ugh... it will work perfectly i just gotta fab up a hanger for it. which is hard. i'm gonna try firing it up today regardless. if nothing gets in my way again. it seems since everything has been ready to rock, SOMETHING always comes up that keeps me from testing the seven!!!!! ARRG!

Just a little way to cheat on the hanger. get an exhaust clamp and weld to that. Then bolt it to the pipe. My Friends Gibson exhaust for his S-10 did it that way for one on the hanging points. Figured it was a good idea and I'm going to do it shortly.

lol, go canadian tire hangers!!! no welding required. all i did was use an exhaust clamp and then clamp the hanger to the exhaust via the clamp and bingo, works like a charm, takes about 3 mins. but you guys don't have an canadian tire down there.
