Off brand "Weber" carbs
I was looking on ebay for a used 48 IDA for my 12a and stumbled across some $200 no name weber ida carbs. Has anyone used them? I feel like that isn't something to cheap out on but if parts are interchangeable then it can't be too far from the real carb. No they are not the idf carbs btw.

From what I heard they are more miss than hit...
I think the main problem that everyone complained about is that they are almost impossible to tune correctly.
I'm not saying that os the case all the time but from what I heard/read that is the main reason...

I have an EMPI branded IDA - EPC51. It has 51MM throttle plates and a larger fuel bowl. They also have some additional openings around the throttle blades to assist with off-idle performance. I found it on a VW parts website and it was around $350.00. At the time real IDAs were not being made and or not that readily available. Now they are more spendy direct from EMPI https://empius.com/products/empi-epc...-jet-kit-each/
The only issue I had was the brass screws that hold in the chokes were loctited in place and had to be drilled out and tapped. Also the hardware was typical China crap so I replaced it. Otherwise it uses all weber tune up parts. It came with F7 tubes, 46mm chokes and ridiculously small main jets. I replaced the needle and seat with a glass ball style I found on another VW site (they are like the grosse jets I used in my Niki) and found an AN fitting to replace the banjo fitting that came on it. Up until recently it has been flawless but I think it now needs some attention....not bad after 6yrs of getting jiggled around.

Good to know. I figured someone else would try them out. It can't really hurt to have a cheaper carb on a car that will sit significantly more than it gets driven. Not like it's a daily driver.
