ON 13B 6 Port Actuators

I have a pair of 13B 6-port actuators that I would like to get cleaned up and refinished.

Has anyone taken these things apart to see how they work mechanically?

I wanted to get an idea of whether it is safe to get them sandblasted or vapour honed .. and then zinc plated or Cerakoted.

Sorry .. I should clarify.

I don't have any plans to disassemble the actuators. I was just wondering if anyone had taken one apart (out of interest) .. so that I could get an idea of whether it's safe to use any type of industrial or professional cleaning / refinishing services.

The actuators that I have work perfectly ok .. they're just really crusty looking.

I have not taken them apart ad they are no longer available new from Mazda and the internal diaphragm is not a serviceable part. I've just cleaned them up and reinstalled them.

Thanks Richard .. that's pretty much the look I want to achieve.

Anything special to help resist getting cruddy looking again?

Not driving the car has helped. Anyways I just buffed it out using various compounds and buffing wheels on a bench grinder.

Richard, that actuator cleaned up nicely!! Here in Ohio, the plating on the actuators is converted to rust and often times the rust causes pitting and the diaphragm will not hold pressure. The polishing looks fantastic!
