Odd hissing noise

When I drive my car around, there is a hissing noise, kind of like air whooshing through a tube. It never made that noise before. Any ideas? Is it the exhaust? - It's nearly falling off. By the way, its a 12A 1985 GS with 162500 miles. Thanks.

Where's the hissing coming from. If it's from under the dash, you're in for a treat.

It sounds like it, however the heat works great and so does the air conditioning, if that had anything to do with it. I'm pretty sure that the sound is coming from the right side of the car, however I can make the hissing go away if I let me foot off the gas and slowly press down on the accelerator again. Weird right? What could the problem be?

Like what kind of treat? Like a piece of cheesecake? A stripper in my face? Or some serious money down the drain (kinda like a stripper in my face).?

Right on?

I had that problem once, its where the vents go together , right by the blower box. My clamp that went around it was loose and the gasket was bad, if youd hit the gas or brake it would change tone while the fan motor was on. Drove me nuts Finally one day I vowed to fix it, after pulling the entire dash I did, but a 12 pack and 5 hours later I was done, never to do it again

Of course it could be a snake in their and that wouldnt be a treat at all

We had an 82 Dodge Ram one time, that when you turned the fan on, it sounded for all the world like bad bearings in there (or a dying cat ). Well, one day I decided to pull it apart, and once I got in there, I discoverd about 4 MGD cans crushed and stuffed in there ...it was rather amusing. Well, off to the recycling bin they went, and no more high pitched grinding dying cat noises . I only metion this because of the snake in there thing, or the treat in there thing, it just seemd to suit the discussion...

PS - The guy we bought the truck from was kind of a hick, and he had a bamboo fishing pole on the gun rack on the back window ...

Yeeehaw!

Sounds like fun. I would imagine that it's my exhaust, as it sounds similar to that of an old Subaru (put-put). Anyone have any luck with Racing Beat's Power Pulse exhaust system?

*drools on his RB system*
Yea... I do love it

I've kinda gotten used to little noises coming from the engine... Espeically oil on my belts, even though I have no clue how oil gets on my belts
That reminds me, I need to get a can of degreaser and clean those belts down...

Uh by treat, I meant a brake booster. If the hissing is coming from under the dash and is only present when the engine is running. It's unlikely, but possible.

Anywho.. Check in your engine bay as well. Could be your shutter valve or some other equally bad vacuum leak.
