Octane

Hey Rexheads,

I am just curious what you guys and gals are running for Octane (Ie. what kind of gas), 87, 89 or 91?

What kind of results have you been getting with these?

Get the lowest octane possible. Anything higher is a waste of gas, unless you've adjusted your timeing to allow for the slower burn of premium fuel. Because of the shape and size of the combustion chamber in a rotary, it doesn't need a particularly high octane in stock trim.

I use 94 octane since I'm running a turbo motor. If you're N/A and close to stock just use the lowest octane, since you won't find any performance gains using higher octane. Gas prices these days can be hard on your wallet, so be reasonable.

I use the high octane stuff every few tanks as it has some nice fuel cleaner addatives in it ... otherwise its just straight 92 octane unleaded (lowest available!)

If you add a pint of 99% alcohol to your tank, does it lower the octane, or raise it? All I think it does is slightly lean the mixture if you're running rich, but I'm not sure about the octane.

octane = less explosive. It's to prevent pre-detonation in high compression engines.

An N/A rotary is not high compression and actually works better with lower octane fuel. I use 87 octane and Pamela purrs like a kitten on the stuff.

your lowest octane is higher than our highest octane.
