Now I feel stupid

Okay, I was looking at my car's bay the other day, and noticed that the fluid that I put in the brake cylinder only a year ago is jet black. What is this problem? Or a general idea?

THanks.

What kind of condition is the master cylinder in ? Any service history?

Is the fluid really black or is just a real dark brown ? My first thought is rust in the system.

It's really really dark. I thought immediately of the master, but I have ZERO braking problems with the car.

Sounds like moisture contamination. Strange to see it happening after only one year though.

Heh, that's the thing that I thought of next. Looks like I'll have to check that later. . . and if it's true. . . my poor poor Rexie will be down until I can save up the money for the stainless steel lines :'(

Did you replace everything in your braking system from the MC, to the lines to the calipers? Probably not.... so thats why its black again.... You've got 20+ years of dirt/sludge build up inside whatever you didn't replace and it eventually mixes in with the new fuild and works its way back up the system to the MC where you can see it.

Its nothing to worry about. Won't effect your brakes, unless maybe you're racing and the fuild routinely sees high temps for extended times.
